Pearl Gemstones: Brilliance of reflection

Pearls luster describes its brilliance of light reflection, the more the luster of pearl the more the brilliance of reflection. The pearls with extremely high levels and quality of luster are regarded as having a mirror like shine. Pearls with low luster look milky, chalky and dull.
Pearls with a higher level of reflection are referred as more valuable than those of poor reflection. According to the luster the pearls can be classified as follows:

·         Weak: Reflections are dim.
·         Medium: Reflections are mild in intensity and slightly blurred.
·         Medium to Strong: Reflections are bright, but not too sharp.
·         Very High: Reflections tend to be sharp, bright and distinct. These kinds of pearls are very rare to find ad hence expensive.

How to purchase a Pearl?

Are you willing to buy a pearl? Then here are some tips for you :

·         Size- The value of a pearl depends on its size. Pearls generally measured perpendicularly in millimeters. The large pearls are more expensive. The classic size of this gemstone is 7mm.

·         Color-there are actually two kinds of color which should be considered in case of pearls the body color and the overtone color. Pearls in light shades are available in white, cream, and golden.
White with pink or silver overtones are generally the most valuable. The dark black pearl with green or blue overtones is also very much desired.

·          Luster-pearls lecture is its essence of beauty. The surface of the pearl should be bright and refractive.

·         Shape- The highest quality pearls are perfectly round with smooth surface. Lower quality pearls are nearly round, and have large pits on the surface.

·         Purchase pearls only from a company with a solid return policy. Because pearls look great in a photograph or showroom but may appear different in natural lighting, so it's important to be able to exchange or return your pearls if necessary.

·          Do not get stuck up on brand names.

·          Purchase from a retailer that specializes in pearls.

Genuine pearl check: A method to check if a pearl is real or imitation is the "Tooth Test". Gently slide the pearl across the front of your teeth; if it feels smooth then it's a fake, as real pearls feel gritty.
